Boat varnish, is for many owners is the favorite way to show off the natural beauty of the wood and their boat. on wooden boats i believe it is best to stick to the traditional type of oil based boat varnish. or the natural sheen and ease of maintenance of an oiled finish.. Although i always used a top-of-the-line varnish, usually from interlux, the finish seemed to last just a little longer than it took to clean the brush, especially under the hot florida sun. maintaining brightwork was an exercise in futility—i’d rather roll rocks uphill with sisyphus than be condemned to endless varnishing.. A well-done varnish job is one of those things that we have all marveled at—whether it was the hand rail or toerail or some other wood accent on the boat, we’ve asked what varnish was used and what were the application methods..
