From the boat builder’s viewpoint, coated parts offer customer value at an economic price. we estimate for most center console windshields, the coating will only add an incremental cost of in between 12 to 15% to the final price. so for example, for a $60.00 windshield, the coated version will add less than $10.00 to its total cost.. Windshield removal for my boat was 20 mins or less windshield disassembly was 20 mins i did a couple of coats of primer and about 3 coats of paint over the course of about a week. i wasn't in a hurry to get it back together windshield reassembly took me a few hours b/c i had never done it.. In automotive applications it can be simply paint, though a special formulation, with high uv resistance and peel strength. on acrylics and polycarbonates like in boats, the paint is usually the etch type of paint that is relatively new, which actively "tooth" the surface for better adhesion.. 
boat windshield trim paint I've searched all over the net and can't find any article or paint specifically for painting windshield glass. what i'm worried about is the paint pulling away from the glass as the windshield sealant will be adhering to the paint now, rather than the glass. it acts as a trim and a primer for the urethane adhesive..
