Cause. prevention. treatment. cause 1: applying paint too thick, too quickly or in hot or windy conditions or a combination of any of them. prevention: reduce amount of paint being applied, add retarder thinner to slow drying rate down treatment: scrape open blisters (or entire coating system where required) and sand back to a good firm edge feathering the edges of the intact coatings to give. I have repainted the 15-meter hull of my boat three times in 30 years; there seems no solution to refilling and repaint it once again because of bubbling. the aluminum hull is fine; it is just that the water seems to get behind the painted faired filler, over time creating the problem of large areas that have bubbled. when removing the failed filler and paint, the hull is ok.. Re: paint blistering/corrosion-aluminum boat i have a 20 foot aluminium hull with a 130 hp honda and i am having the same experience.. paint blistering around rod holders and where stainless screws penetrate the hull. i will disconnect the batteries as suggested but i have also been told that a sacrificial anode on the hull will help.. 
paint blistering on aluminum boat The repair is now ready to be sanded and painted with sea hawk bottom paint. if redoing the hull apply tuff stuff primer, followed by bottom paint. if the blister has damaged the fiberglass, that will need to be repaired with fiberglass cloth cut to match damaged area.. The weather when you paint is neither too hot, cold or humid. still, the paint blisters. the problem could be the paint used.sometimes paint is mixed incorrectly. to prevent blistering from the paint itself, follow the manufacturer’s directions for mixing the paint. test on a surface other than the wall..
